Release Today, Fish Tomorrow
Its involvement with the La Jolla Agreement and Declaration of Panama (legislation reducing dolphin “bycatch” in the commercial tuna industry), the outlawing of commercial billfishing, and the Sport Fishing Economic Conferences of Central America (sport fishing preservation efforts), demonstrates Panama's proactive approach to environmental conservation.
The fishing at Pedasi is great, and we share the government's views. In an effort to achieve a sustainable environment, our services respect the local culture, add to the economic well-being of the Pedasi community, and do not degrade the species richness, species diversity, biodiversity, ecosystem, or habitat .
As such Pedasi anglers follow the almost universal practice of releasing all bluefin tuna, blue marlin, sailfish, and billfish . In addition, we are experimenting with circle hooks as opposed to traditional “J” hooks. Essentially, these new hooks are designed to snag in the hinge or scissors of the fish's mouth and avoid getting a nylon snood sawn through by the fish's teeth . |
